چکیده

The availability of afternoon glucose tolerance test for the diagnosis of diabetes mellitus was investigated. Fifty grams glucose tolerance test was performed twice in 52 patients of various diseases, i.e., one test was made in the morning and another was done in the afternoon after taking an ordinary break fast alone. No significant difference was seen between the two tests. Hence, we can use the glucose tolerance test for the diagnosis of mild diabetes in the afternoon instead of the test in the early morning without any change of criteria. There was also no significant difference in the plasma insulin response to glucose ingestion when it was given in the morning or in the afternoon.

Diurnal variation in glucose tolerance: associated changes in plasma insulin, growth hormone, and non-esterified fatty acids.

Oral glucose tolerance tests were performed in the morning and afternoon of separate days on 31 people derived from a normal population sample. Blood sugar levels were higher in the afternoon test from and including 60 minutes after the glucose load. The degree of diurnal variation was similar in men and women, but greater in the older half of the group. It was negatively correlated with the de...

Diurnal variation in oral glucose tolerance: blood sugar and plasma insulin levels morning, afternoon, and evening.

Twenty-four subjects received three oral glucose tolerance tests, in the morning, afternoon, and evening of separate days. The mean blood sugar levels in the afternoon and evening tests were similar, and they were both significantly higher than those in the morning test. Plasma immunoreactive insulin levels, however, were highest in the morning test. The pattern of insulin levels during the aft...

Comment on: Goldberg et al. Circadian Variation in the Response to the Glucose Challenge Test in Pregnancy: Implications for Screening for Gestational Diabetes Mellitus. Diabetes Care 2012;35:1578–1584

W e read with great interest the article by Goldberg et al. (1), in which the authors sought to further characterize the metabolic phenotype of the population of pregnant women with the positive glucose challenge test (GCT) test in relation to the time of day when the test was done. They found that women who had GCT done in the afternoon have a better metabolic function and a lower risk of subs...

The effect of chronic psychological stress on carbohydrate metabolism in rat

Several studies have shown that stress has major effects on metabolism. There is also some evidence indicating that stress may induce diabetes mellitus. The present study has investigated the role of chronic psychological stress on carbohydrate metabolism in male Wistar rats (250 ± 50 g). Animals were divided into control and test groups (n = 8/group). Blood samples were obtained by tail snippi...
